How do you make Candles and Soap?

    Posted under make soap

I just want to know how to make plain candles and Soap..
    Solid Soap not Liquid Soap.
    And just regular plain candles.

    Thank you ! :]

Candle and soap making are not really that hard, but you do have to be cautious (making candles and soap can involve high temperatures, flammable substances, and potentially harmful chemicals). For candles, the beginner should start with container candles (usually in tins or glass jars) as this will get you some experience working with waxes, wicks, dyes, and scents. Note that there are many differnt types of waxes (container, pillar, soy, gel) and scents (not all are all safe together). For soap, you should start with melt & pour (M&P) to get the hang of it. I would recommend that you look at some of the sites I provided links to, take a lesson, or buy an introduction book/video. There is a lot of good and bad information out there, please use caution.

    Sites:
http://www.candlesandsupplies.com (good for info, videos, etc)
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/candlemakingsurvival/ (great on-line group)
    http://candleandsoap.about.com/ (good instructions)
    http://www.candlecauldron.com/ (a very informative site)

    Hope this helps!

Can you use regular soap to make decorative soaps for gifts?

    Posted under make soap

Can I melt down Ivory soap or similar to make gift soaps or do I need buy the glycerin soap?

    Does it melt the same?

Unless you specifically want to mold it into a different shape, you don't have to do anything to it. Delta makes a product called Soap and Candle Medium that you can mix with paint and use on soaps and candles (of course:). If you go to Michaels.com, they have basic instructions on how to use it.
You can also try milling soap. It's been a while since I've looked at the process, but I believe you shred regular bar soap and press it into the mold. It takes longer to process, I think because it has to dry.

This site has a video on milling soap by hand if you are interested.

does anyone knows how to make a bath soap?

    Posted under make soap

I want to make my own soap. will anyone show me how. can i make a soap out of fruits? how?

There are two common soap making processes cold process (uses lye) and melt and pour (has lye - soap that base - that you melt down and re cast so to speak)

No you can't make soap using fruits. I recommend you do some research on soap making on the Internet and at the library before making soap.

I would start by making melt and pour soap since its the easiest and you do not have to handle the lye. It also is ready for use once it hardens. You can purchase soap base, molds, scents and colorants at most craft stores.

a good place to start: for Melt & Pour:
    http://www.teachsoap.com/mp.html

handmade cold process which is made from oils, lye and water plus scents and colorants:

I googled soap making procedure and came up with some good sites as well you could also could google soap making, soap making process ect. which would also yield lots of usefull information.

Does anyone crafty out there know how to make soap without using any fat products?

    Posted under make soap

I would like to know if it's possible to make soap with a strong natural fragrance made of pure olive oil instead of fat products. Anyone have suggestions of how it can be made and preserved to keep freshness and frangrances? What about a peppermint oatmeal frangrance? Or apple spice? One that smrlls like fresh baked apple pies when you shower? Any ideas?

I love the soaps you can buy in Crete - made with Olive Oil and they've added fragrances like lavender, aloe vera, rosemary etc. I always buy loads when I go over. Anything natural like that will tempt people to buy and they seem to last a lot longer.
